Website Issues Prompt Southwest Airlines to Extend Fare Sale

Apparently, everybody does love a bargain - at least travelers looking to get a cheap fare on Southwest Airlines.

They overwhelmed the airline website this week, and the company is trying to make up for the problems.

Southwest is offering some great deals, and they are giving customers more time to get them. The sale has been extended an extra 24 hours so travelers can buy tickets.

With round-trip airfares being offered for as little as $100, it's no surprise that people were logging on to Southwest.com website looking for flights.

The airline began a fare sale on Tuesday that created an extraordinarily high volume of customer demand, which impacted the website. Company officials say the site started showing persistent slowness and error messages Wednesday afternoon due to all the traffic.

Customers now have until midnight Friday night to book flights at the discounted rates.

There is a catch - you can't travel on holidays, Fridays or Sundays. Travel to and from certain cities is only valid Mondays through Thursdays, and you have to travel between Aug. 24 and Dec. 16.
