Book Signing for a Cause

Authors Randy Susan Meyers and Marianne Leone will raise funds for cerebral palsy and to prevent dating violence at Newton, Mass. signing

Newtonville Books in Newton, Massachusetts, will host two authors who will join forces to sign books and raise funds.

Randy Susan Meyers' latest novel is "Accidents of Marriage." She brings experiences from her own life to the story of emotional abuse, and the consequences, in a Boston family.

Marianne Leone is the author of "Jesse: A Mother's Story," based on the experience she shared with actor-husband Chris Cooper, of raising a son with cerebral palsy.

The book signing, scheduled for 7 p.m. on Sept. 10, will raise money for the Lauren Dunne Astley Memorial Fund to prevent dating violence and the Jesse Cooper Foundation.

Leone and Meyers join Jim Braude on Broadside to discuss their works, their experiences and their causes.

"I was [initially] afraid to write a full-length prose," said Leone. "All I can say is that it was needed at the time, and I'm really very grateful to have done it."

Meyers discussed a tragic incident that she experienced when she was 4.

"My father tried to kill my mother. He did not succeed," she said. "I never remembered it, even though it was there. My older sister kept reminding me of it."
