Paralympian Reacts to Boston Olympic Bid

Pam Fernandes, a gold medal Paralympic cyclist, supports the games potentially coming to Boston

Local athletes have been reacting to the big news of an Olympic bid being awarded to the city of Boston.

Pam Fernandes, of Needham, Massachusetts, is a gold medal Paralympic cyclist who competed in both the 2000 games in Sydney and the 1996 games in Atlanta.

Fernandes, who's visually impaired, says she's thrilled Boston was picked by the USOC to represent the country in its bid for the summer games.

She says if Boston is picked, having the games here would be a true inspiration to children struggling with disabilities locally.

"We can show them, rather than just tell them, how much they can do. We can point at other people who have a similar condition and say look, look would you like to do that someday and really encourage them because sports really transcends disability,” Fernandes said.

Fernandes says she thinks Boston would be a great atmosphere for the athletes too because of such rabid sports fans.
