Obama Commemorates Sept. 11 in Weekly Address

(NECN) - President Obama is commemorating the anniversary of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks in his weekly address.

The President asked Americans to mark the day by remembering how far our country has come since the terrorist attacks.

He also asked people to honor the victims and men and women in uniform who have served the country.

Here’s the President’s statement:

"This week, we mark the eleventh anniversary of the September 11th attacks. It's a time to remember the nearly 3,000 innocent men, women and children we lost, and the families they left behind. It's a chance to honor the courage of the first responders who risked their lives - on that day, and every day since. And it's an opportunity to give thanks for our men and women in uniform who have served and sacrificed, sometimes far from home, to keep our country safe.”

Meanwhile, officials at the National Cathedral in Washington say they plan to scale back activities to commemorate the anniversary of 9-11.

They say it's an effort to help the country heal and move forward.
