Suspect reportedly knocking women down, taking photos up skirts (Published Friday, Jan 17, 2014)

(NECN: Eileen Curran, Brighton, Mass.) - Boston Police have stepped up patrols, after a series of attacks on women walking alone in the Brighton area.

The attacks have reportedly happened on Ashford Street, right near Boston University.

Police say the male suspect has been targeting young women wearing skirts, knocking them down and taking a picture of them from under their skirts with his cellphone.

There have been five attacks of this type over a six-week period - all between the hours of midnight and 2 a.m.

The last attack was reported on Nov. 6.

    Students nervous after attacks

"There's a lot of fraternities, there's a lot of...just, off-campus student housing," one young student said.

"I never think of it as that dangerous of a street but...apparently, it is!" exclaimed another.

While police have stepped up patrols, they are urging young women to be aware of their surroundings and not be distracted with headphones or cellphone conversations. Students who feel threatened should cross the street, changing directions.
