Still No Resolution in Bombing Suspect Burial Battle

(NECN: Justin Michaels) - The body of Boston Marathon bomber suspect number one has been in Worcester, Mass. since Friday and there is still no clear answer as to where this body will eventually be buried.

The story here hasn't changed much in the last three days. Police protection, police barricades, police meetings inside with the funeral director, protesters, but there is no solution.

Where to bury Tamerlan Tsarnaev, that's the question to which everyone wants an answer.

There could be some resolution in Hamden, Conn. A man by the name of Paul keener is offering up one of his two remaining family burial plots. But aside from Keane, nobody, not one person, wants the body to be buried there.

"No matter how much of a pariah, no matter how despicable, no matter how much of a leper he is, he's a human being and he deserves a right to be buried just like anybody else,” said Keane.

"We don't want a bomber buried in our cemetery,” said John Bello, who is opposed to a burial. “He's a terrorist, he shouldn't be in our country."

"This person is not part of a family in this community and has no business being buried here,” said Butch Butterworth.

“Will do anything without our power to keep this guy out here,” said Bill Copeland.

Boston Mayor Tom Menino says not in his city and Cambridge, Mass. says the same thing, and if you ask any of the protesters here in Worcester they'll agree, not in their city.

The spokesperson for the Worcester Police Department did speak with the media Tuesday about a possible solution.

"The chief met with the owner of the funeral home, and the uncle, they spoke for quite some time,” said Sgt. Kerry Hazelhurst. “As a result of the meeting, they're quite confident that there will be a conclusion in the next couple days."

So far, the only person aside from Keene who says they want the body is Tsarnaev's mother, who wants it to be flown back to Russia.

So again we sit and wait.

Just like Gov. Deval Patrick said earlier this week, this is a family decision, one everyone hope they make soon.
