Tom Menino Apologizes for Comments Taking Aim at Detroit, Mich.

(NECN) - Boston Mayor Tom Menino is apologizing for recent remarks taking aim at Detroit.

In an interview with "The New York Times Magazine", Menino said he'd be interested in going to Detroit and "blow up the place and start all over."

Detroit Mayor Dave Bing called Menino's words extremely regrettable.

Bing also said that he thought that "the mayor of a city that recently experienced a deadly bombing attack would be more sensitive and not use the phrase ‘blow up.”’

A spokeswoman for Menino said the mayor was sorry for any offense taken from his remarks.
