A five-hour long, armed standoff in Central Maine ended with a Windsor man shooting himself, police confirm.

State Police received calls from 36-year-old Wayne Bland's relatives around 9 p.m. on Friday, stating that Bland was suicidal and had taken a number of pills. They responded to the scene on Barton Road and began negotiating with Bland to surrender his weapon.

Bland fired at least half a dozen shots at police before shooting himself around 2 a.m. He survived and was then taken into custody outside the home. Bland is being treated at MaineGeneral for the self-inflicted gunshot wound.

An elderly relative was in the house at the time of the incident. No shots were fired by police and no other injuries were reported.
