A mother was killed and her son was injured in a crash in Bridgeport.

A 9-year-old boy is on the mend in the hospital after a vehicle struck him and killed his mom in Bridgeport on Monday.

He was crossing John Street with his mother, Carmen Martinez, 41 of Bridgeport, at 3:30 p.m. when a pickup struck them.

His mother was pronounced dead at St. Vincent's Medical Center and the boy was transported to Bridgeport Hospital and then transferred to Yale-New Haven Hospital in critical condition.
