Barricaded Man Yells at Police, Says He's Trying to Sleep
    Ansonia Police Department
Nelson Serrano, 31, was arrested following a standoff in Ansonia.

Police said a 31-year-old man who inappropriately touched a teen and forced his way into her apartment in Ansonia Wednesday yelled at officers knocking on the door and told them he was trying to sleep.

Neighbors told police that Nelson Serrano, 31, of Ansonia, started yelling, swearing and threatening people in the parking lot of an apartment complex at 110 Woodridge Avenue around 10:20 a.m. Wednesday.

Police said Serrano also tried to hug and kiss another man in the parking lot, touched a 19-year-old woman inappropriately and then followed her into her apartment. When she tried to close the door, Serrano forced his way inside and tried to hug and kiss her, according to police.

Officers arrived to learn that Serrano had gone back to his apartment. He refused to come out when they asked him to discuss the incident, police said. Serrano ultimately opened a window to speak with officers on and off for about three hours.

Police moved neighbors away from the area during the standoff.

At some point, a friend of Serrano contacted police and offered to help coax Serrano out of the apartment. He contacted Serrano, who eventually surrendered and was taken into custody, according to police, who said the standoff ended peacefully.

Serrano was charged with first-degree burglary, third-degree sexual assault, third-degree assault, third-degree breach of peace, third-degree criminal mischief and interfering with an officer. He was held on $250,000 bond and appeared in court Thursday.

Police said they do not know what caused the incident and that Serrano has refused to speak with investigators about the situation.
