Several Massachusetts officials attended a Memorial Day service in Dorchester Monday morning.

Boston Mayor Marty Walsh, Governor Charlie Baker, Congressman Stephen Lynch, and Senator Linda Dorcena Forry attended.

The Tribute to the First Responders Memorial Day Service, held indoors at Dorchester's Florian Hall due to the rain, was held to remember all the men and women who lost their lives for the sake of our country's freedom.

Although the weather conditions caused many events in Massachusetts to be cancelled or moved indoors, many people still showed up to honor the veterans.

The Memorial Day traditions originated after the Civil War, and became a federal holiday in 1971.  This group of men and women continue those traditions, keeping our fallen soldiers on their mind.
