Body Found at Cape Cod Rest Stop

A woman's body was found at a Route 6 rest stop on Cape Cod on Saturday morning, officials said.

People traveling to and from the stop in Barnstable, Massachusetts, would never guess it was a crime scene. But the Cape and Islands District Attorney's Office is investigating an overnight homicide.

The District Attorney later identified the victim as Christine Ferreira of Hyannis. An autopsy by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner revealed she died of multiple stabbing injuries and multiple gunshot wounds.

"Both my wife and I are Cape Cod natives, and we've never come across anything remotely like this in our lives," said Robert Mayo, an employee of the Barnstable Visitor Center.

"We saw all of these markers out front, yellow caution markers," said Mayo. "Then we came upon all of the state police vehicles with the lights on."

Mayo and his wife were trying to open the visitor center, but were told to come back a couple of hours later. With no one in custody, he says his return to work has been unsettling.

"It's going to stay with us definitely, obviously, in our minds for a while here," said Mayo.
