Bridgeport, Connecticut, Man Pleads Guilty to Stealing Checks

A Bridgeport, Connecticut, man who stole mail containing blank checks or credit card "convenience checks," which he then used to buy cars, motorcycles and all-terrain vehicles for sale online has pleaded guilty.

Federal prosecutors say 26-year-old Dayquan Jackson pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit mail fraud and bank fraud.

Prosecutors say Jackson hit homes in Fairfield County in 2013 and this year to steal the checks, and sold his purchases to unsuspecting victims from out of state.

Some of the stolen checks also were provided to "runners" who deposited the checks into their bank accounts. Jackson and others then withdrew the funds from the accounts.

Prosecutors say his scheme cost banks and credit card companies $120,000.

Jackson faces up to 30 years in prison at sentencing on March 5.
