The Coast Guard has suspended their search in the area of Black Rock Creek in Salisbury, Massachusetts, after receiving reports of a possible missing person overnight Wednesday, saying the incident was merely a misheard conversation.
The search was focused near the entrance of the Merrimack River, Newburyport.
Police reported hearing cries from the shore after receiving four reports of a person yelling for help in the water.
A 29-foot response boat crew from Coast Guard Station Merrimack River and an MH-60 Jayhawk aircrew from Air Station Cape Cod searched the area.
The Coast Guard said they received a call from a fisherman who was out with another man on kayaks. Those men were a distance from each other and were yelling to each other.
Based on the time and the search results, the Coast Guard believes this is what people heard.
