Couple Carries Out Roadside Delivery

Portnoy's delivered their baby girl in an SUV parked by the side of the road

A Massachusetts couple endured an unexpected delivery when their baby girl decided she did not way to wait any longer to enter the world.

The Portnoy's were headed to the hospital when they were forced to stop at the bottom of a driveway. Tess Portnoy was born inside their SUV 15 minutes after her mother's water broke.

"We got into the car and I kept saying we're not going to make. I have to push," said Nora Portnoy.

Brian, Nora's husband, was trying to drive while helping to deliver Tess.

"I started hearing crying. When I heard crying I pulled into the nearest driveway," said Brian.

He immediately called 9-1-1 for assistance. Members of the Natick Fire Department immediately responded to the scene.

Tess was born at 6:02 a.m. She was breathing, but a bit blue in color. Firefighters tended to Tess and she ended up just fine.

The Portnoy's are both nurses with emergency room training. They still say it's a stressful event that will be remembered for a lifetime.
