It's a tragic day for a Cape Cod family after a child mysteriously died Tuesday morning.

Police responded to the home on Short Way in Sandwich, Massachusetts, just before 7am. When they arrived at the home, they found an unresponsive baby.

The child just 4 weeks old. EMS tried to revive the infant, but it didn’t work. The baby was taken to the hospital and was pronounced dead shortly thereafter.

Police and the DA’s office now investigating the circumstances of the death. In a statement, the DA’s office writes: “The preliminary investigation reveals no obvious signs of trauma or injury, however in any unattended death of this nature there will be a thorough investigation.”

Neighbors said it’s a young couple who reside in the home along with inlaws, who are long-time residents of the neighborhood.

Massachusetts Department of Children & Families tells necn they too have joined the investigation trying to figure what caused this child’s mysterious death.

Cause and manner of the infant's death will be determined by the state's medical examiner office, and the death remains under investigation.
