Drivers Charged in Fatal Street Race Crash

Rhode Island state police say the drivers of two cars involved in a fatal drag race and crash in Johnston last month have been arrested.

Police on Wednesday charged 19-year-old Zachary Albanese, of Johnston and 26-year-old Peter Lawrence, of Scituate, with driving to engender with death resulting and street racing.

They are both free on $10,000 personal recognizance pending appearances in court on Friday.

Police say the men were engaged in a "high-speed street race" on Dec. 13 when Albanese hit a third vehicle, spun out of control, and struck a parked vehicle in a gas station.

Two of Albanese's passengers, 18-year-olds Taylor Reilly and Dylan Laurenzo, died.

Neither Albanese nor Lawrence have listed phone numbers and could not be reached for comment.
