Leicester Versus Auburn Girls Softball Game Turns Into Tribute to Officer Tarentino

They're rivals on the field but the Auburn and Leicester girls softball teams united Tuesday to honor a hero who touched both of their hometowns.

Officer Ron Tarentino lived in Leicester and served on the police force there for seven years before transferring to Auburn where he died in the line of duty Sunday.

It was a memorable game that began with a moment of silence for Officer Tarentino.

A poignant moment that happened in the shadow of the Auburn Police Department across the street from the field.

Mourners have been pausing at the station and leaving flowers.

After their game, both teams crossed the street to add to the memorial and to offer the Auburn Police a signed game ball.

It was a move that brought at least one officer to tears.

She said, "Thank you so much this really means a lot to us the support that we are getting from everyone is unbelievable."

A match up that turned into a symbol of the bond two communities will always have through a hometown hero.
