Man Accused of Impersonating Cop, Kidnapping

Police in Hartford, Conn. arrested John O'Connor for robbing and kidnapping a victim

Police have arrested a man they say impersonated a police officer while kidnapping and robbing someone in Hartford, Connecticut.

Forty-eight-year-old John O'Connor of East Hartford is accused of wearing a badge around his neck while forcing a 63-year-old victim to an ATM to get money.

O'Connor was not wearing any police clothing when he was arrested on Jefferson Street.

Police have charged O'Connor with impersonating an officer, kidnapping and robbery. He is held on a $1 million bond.

According to police, five similar incidents were reported in Hartford in recent days. In those incidents, police say a suspect requested identification before taking the victims' wallets.
