Man Found Guilty for Role in Attempted Murder

Kyle Buffum was found guilty Monday in Merrimack County Superior Court

A 24-year-old New Hampshire man has been convicted of organizing an attempted murder that left one woman with 15 stab wounds in January 2014.

The Concord Monitor reports Kyle Buffum was found guilty Monday in Merrimack County Superior Court of accomplice to attempted murder and other charges related to the stabbing of Andrea Halvorsen in Allenstown's Bear Brook State Park.

Prosecutors say Buffum convinced his 18-year-old girlfriend to kill Halvorsen, her friend, before the two planned to commit a series of robberies and run away to Florida together.

Buffum pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity, but jurors disagreed. New Hampshire doesn't require a medical diagnosis for such a claim, which gives jurors the power to hold a defendant accountable for their actions.

Buffum faces life in prison.
