A New Bedford, Massachusetts, man has been sent to prison for life for fatally shooting an 18-year-old woman and injuring her 17-year-old boyfriend.
Twenty-two-year-old Erick Cournoyer was sentenced Thursday in Fall River Superior Court after being convicted of second-degree murder and other charges for the July 2009 slaying of Bianca Rosado, a young mother.
Cournoyer will be eligible for parole in 15 years. He was 17 at the time of the shooting.
Prosecutors say Cournoyer shot Rosado and injured 17-year-old Victor Camacho during an ongoing dispute between Rosado and Cournoyer's girlfriend. The two women had arranged a fight.
Jurors deliberated for about seven hours over two days before returning the verdicts.
