Man Gets Up to 7 Years for Beating Child

Carlos Rodriguez was also sentenced Monday to six years of probation

A Springfield, Massachusetts, man who used a belt and a cellphone charger to beat a young girl and twisted her arm until it broke has been sentenced to up to seven years in prison.

Carlos Rodriguez was also sentenced Monday to six years of probation after pleading guilty to charges including two counts of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and assault and battery on a child with injury.

Prosecutors say the abuse came to light in 2012 when the girl was found at a pharmacy early in the morning suffering from injuries including a month-old broken arm that has never been set but was starting to heal. The child was described only as a preteen.

The 33-year-old Rodriguez's lawyer tells The Republican (http://bit.ly/1Kpj6W8 ) his client is "incredibly sorry."
