NYC Woman Dies Swimming in Mass. Pond

    Police say a New York City woman visiting friends in western Massachusetts has died while swimming in a local pond. 

    Otis police say 48-year-old Marilyn Joseph, of Brooklyn, and her 13-year-old son were in a paddleboat on White Lily Pond on Tuesday evening when she apparently decided to go for a swim. 

    Police say she immediately started to struggle and efforts by her son and a resident of the area to save her were unsuccessful. 

    Her body was recovered by the Berkshire County Sheriff's Department Dive Team and the Otis Fire Department. The exact cause of death remains under investigation.
