Out-of-Control Truck Hits House in Worcester, Massachusetts

Dramatic home security surveillance video shows a driverless Bob's Discount Furniture truck roll backwards on a steep hill in Worcester, Massachusetts, crashing into a car and through a resident's yard.

Furniture came flying out of the truck as it careened down the street and came to rest against the porch of a home.

Worcester Police say an inoperable parking brake led to the incident around 11 a.m. on Shelby Street, and that the truck rolled over the chock block.

The 24-year-old driver was knocking on the door of a home while a second worker, who is 27, was in the back of the truck preparing the furniture for delivery, police say.

The worker in the back of the truck jumped to safety as it started rolling backwards. Police say he suffered a broken hand.

The truck is now out of service.

Steve Gallati lives with his parents in the house at the end of the hill, where the truck finally came to rest. He says he's thankful his father wasn't badly hurt, or anyone else.

"My father had just left five minutes prior, to get coffee. Just looking at the timing of the video, five minutes before that he wouldn't have been here," said Gallati.

The front steps and porch are now damaged, a street sign knocked over, and a car at the end was also wrecked.

Gallati says he now wants more answers.

"The state police were here," he said. "They said that truck was taken off the road three days ago for safety violations and shouldn't have been on the road."

Bob's had no comment, other than to say the driver is a contractor.

The investigation is ongoing.
