Parents Plan to File Lawsuit in Bridgewater State University Child Care Center Rape Case

The parents of four children who attended the daycare at Bridgewater State University have announced plans to file a lawsuit against the university following the arrest of a student worker and the center's director.

The parents say the lawsuit against the school is asking for information about who knew of the abuse, when they knew it and what they did or did not do about it.

Attorney Carmen Durso says the parents are not seeking monetary damages - only information.

At the end of March, 21-year-old Kyle Loughlin was charged with raping two young boys at the Children's Center.

His director, 53-year-old Judith Ritacco, was charged shortly after with reckless child endangerment, witness intimidation and misleading investigators. She has since been fired by the university.

One of the children involved in the lawsuit is one of the alleged rape victims; the other three children are not victims, although lawyers say the parents have their suspicions since their parents say they have been displaying signs of abuse.

"Nothing is more devastating for a parent than learning your child is a victim of sexual abuse. Next worst is learning slowly over time that their care providers might have prevented or dminished the harm," Durso said.

Loughlin has pleaded not guilty to the two rape charges as well as assault charges. Ritacco has also pleaded not guilty.
