State police say one person died, a second was critically injured and four others are in hospitals following a head-on crash involving a cement truck in Oxford.
Investigators say the truck collided with a vehicle on Route 20 at about 8:30 a.m. on Monday.
Police said one person in the vehicle was killed and two others injured, including one who suffered life-threatening injuries and is on life support at a hospital. State police have since identified the person killed as a 31-year-old Sturbridge woman, and the person on life support as an 8-month-old boy who was a passenger in her car. A second child passenger, a 24-month-old boy, was seriously injured in the crash.
The truck driver, identified as a 34-year-old Oxford man, was also hospitalized. The cement truck, which is owned by Sterling Concrete Corporation, rolled on its side as a result of the impact.
The vehicle that struck the cement truck was pushed into a third vehicle after the crash, injuring two people in that car. Those occupants have been identified as a 55-year-old Southbridge man and a 26-year-old Southbridge resident.
Police have not yet released the names of any of the people involved.
Investigators are trying to determine the directions of travel of the vehicles involved and other circumstances.
The crash scene is still closed as crews clean up cement that spilled, and traffic is being diverted in the area.
