It was dark and the road was slick when police in Waltham, Massachusetts, say a 65-year-old man was hit and killed by a car on Wynam Street.

"I try to cross it every day when I go home,” said James Hache from Waltham. “I take the bus here and back every morning and every afternoon. Trying to cross the street in the afternoon, nobody lets you cross. Nobody."

Police said the man who died is from Watertown. His identity has not been released as officials are still trying to contact his family.

According to police, the man was getting off the bus before 7 a.m. Tuesday, when he and another man, a 70-year-old from Boston, were hit in the crosswalk. Police say the man who died worked in the Hobbs Brook Office Park.

The 70-year-old was sent to the hospital with injures to his face and legs.

"The big thing is, when you're crossing the street, look both ways," said Waltham Police Sgt. William Gallant. "Just because you have the right of way, doesn't mean a vehicle is going to stop. A vehicle, unfortunately, will do a lot more damage to you than you do to them."

According to police, the driver of the car is a 60-year-old man from Waltham. Charges have not been filed against him.

"We always make sure someone stops because we don't trust anyone," said Jim Webb who works in the business complex across the street.

There are yellow caution signs alerting drivers to the crosswalk, but Richard Raum from Holliston says more needs to be done.

"At least in the town where I live, there's actually something in the middle of the road," said Raum. "Now maybe that would be obstructive to people, but it would certainly get my attention."
