Prosecutors: Rhode Island Man Paid Prostitutes in Heroin

A Rhode Island man has pleaded guilty to taking two women from Massachusetts to Rhode Island to engage in prostitution and paying them in heroin.

Federal prosecutors say Damien Beverly, of Providence, pleaded guilty last week to conspiracy, transportation to engage in prostitution and conspiracy to distribute heroin.

According to prosecutors, Beverly met one victim in Boston in the summer of 2014 and brought her to a hotel room in Warwick, where he persuaded her to post an online advertisement offering to engage in sex for a fee. Authorities say all the money went to Beverly, who provided the woman with heroin.

Prosecutors say he engaged in a similar arrangement with a second woman he met in Boston in September 2014.

A second man has pleaded guilty to supplying the heroin.
