Remember that adorable baby gorilla that you helped name? Well, much to everyone's surprise, it's a boy, not a girl as initially thought!
The Franklin Park Zoo in Boston has adjusted the gorilla's name from Aziza to Azize.
Kiki, the mother, is very protective and had been holding the baby very closely. Staff was initially only able to get a limited view.
The baby has now reached the developmental phase where he has begun to crawl and stand up.
This is Kiki's first son. Her three other offspring with her mate Kitombe are all females.
In June, necn viewers submitted their suggestions as to what the baby gorilla's name should be. After thousands of submissions, the top three names were placed into boxes in the zoo's gorilla den. It was Kiki herself who then chose the box with the name Aziza on it.
Funny how things turn out sometimes!
