Teen Charged With Assaulting Police Officer

A teen has been charged with assaulting a police officer in Bedford, New Hampshire, the town's police department confirms.

A teen has been charged with assaulting a police officer in Bedford, New Hampshire, the town's police department confirms.

On Monday around 3:50 p.m., police responded to Route 101 east for the report of a female walking in the median of the highway during heavy traffic. An officer tried to stop her, but she ran away without speaking to the officer.

According to police, the officer attempted to detain the female, fearing she would run into traffic and create a public safety risk. During a brief struggle, the suspect allegedly produced a 10-inch butcher knife and thrusted it towards the officer's face. She was ultimately taken into custody without injury to the officer or the suspect.

Lara Sonntag, 18, was charged with resisting arrest and assaulting a police officer. She was arraigned Tuesday morning and is being held at Hillsborough County Jail on $10,000 cash bail.
