Vt. Police Head to N.Y. to Aid in Search for Escaped Killers

Authorities in New York have requested assistance from Vermont State Police in the ongoing search for two convicted killers who escpaed from prison.

State police confirmed Sunday night that the Tactical Services Unit was heading to New York to provide aid in the search for David Sweat and Richard Matt, who escaped June 6 from the maximum-security facility in Dannemora.

Sunday, officials investigated a possible sighting of the killers in rural Allegany County, New York, near the Pennsylvania border.

Scott Waterman, the public information officer for Vermont State Police, did not immediately know how many units would be heading to New York, what part of the state they would be in or what they would be doing.
