Whale Carcass Washes Up on Maine Island

The body of a 36-foot whale washed up on Little Cranberry Island.

A 36-foot whale has washed up on Maine's Little Cranberry Island.

College of the Atlantic Allied Whale Director Sean Todd tells WNSX-FM that the whale has been identified as Triomphe, a 6-year-old male humpback whale.

Todd says it's too early to say how the whale died.

Allied Whale volunteers gathered samples Monday to find out more information about the whale's death. He says the carcass will be left where it is unless it becomes a public nuisance.
