Fitchburg Police Investigate Murder of Woman Found Stabbed to Death

(NECN: Jennifer Eagan - Worcester, Mass.) - A mother was murdered in her apartment in Fitchburg, Massachusetts.

Inside, police also found a man in the bathtub with *self-inflicted* stab wounds.

Sarin Chan's two children were inside when their mother was stabbed to death.

Officers were called to the home at around 10:30 Sunday morning, where they found 25-year-old Sharin Chan dead with multiple stab wounds, and her two children ages four and six -- they were unhurt. Witnesses to all or part of the stabbing, her children were placed in custody with foster parents.

"It was a very savage attack and murder," Worcester District Attorney Joseph Early, Jr. said.

A 29-year-old man who also lives there was found by police unconscious in the bathtub with self-inflicted stab wounds, not believed to be life-threatening. Police were uncertain of his relation to Chan, but were looking into whether he was her husband or boyfriend.

"I lost friend, community lost good person," Christina Gonzalez said.

Throughout the afternoon, investigators interviewed neighbors and went in and out of the three story building.  Though police have yet to release the victim's name, Christina Gonzalez used to work with the woman at the Cleghorn Neighborhood Center just down the street.

"She was the first one that would jump in and play with the kids," Gonzalez said. "She was a good person."

NECN reporter Jennifer Eagan is UMass Medical Center in Worcester with more on the story.
