AG Won't Investigate NH GOP's Finance Complaint

NH Attorney General says complaint against Gov. Maggie Hassan contains no factual allegation of broken laws

The state attorney general's office says it won't investigate a Republican party claim of an improper campaign donation to Gov. Maggie Hassan because the complaint contains no factual allegation that any laws were broken.

Republicans on Tuesday said the Emily's List political action committee donated $25,000 to Hassan on June 11, one day before she officially filed for office. Had the campaign received it after June 12, it would violate finance law but a Hassan campaign spokesman said the contribution was received before the deadline.

In a letter to party Chairwoman Jennifer Horn on Wednesday, Associate Attorney General Richard Head said the GOP's complaint didn't meet minimum standards for an investigation.

Head copied the letter to state Democrats who also filed campaign finance complaints against Republican gubernatorial hopeful Walt Havenstein.
