In an interview before September's primary, Middlesex County's Clerk of Courts Michael Sullivan said on Tuesday that Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan has mismanaged her office.
Before Jared Remy pleaded guilty to killing his girlfriend, Jennifer Martel, two veteran prosecutors concluded his history of earlier domestic violence charges was a call for reforms.
"I had a public responsibility, which I took fully, to look very hard at what had happened to determine what changes needed to be made and then to implement those changes so that to the extent humanly possible such a tragedy would not reoccur," she said.
Ryan also commented on the report of Sullivan earning more than $1 million while he was clerk of courts.
"I think there are concerns, yes, about how [he's] doing all of those things," she said. "There are frankly so many hours in the day, and to be doing what the work of the public and to be running an office requires a commitment of time and it's very difficult to imagine him having the appropriate commitment with all of these other outside activities."
