All eyes remain on Tropical Storm Harvey this week as the system continues to cause massive, historic flooding along Texas’ Gulf Coast. Meanwhile back home, high pressure centered overhead will result in continued pleasant weather for the start of the work week as many begin to gear up for Labor Day Weekend.

Today features sunshine with a few fair weather clouds and highs in the low 70s. High pressure remains in control overnight with lows dipping to near 50 degrees south and mid 40s across the North Country.

High and mid-level clouds will be on the increase Tuesday as a tropical system works it’s way up the Eastern Seaboard near North Carolina. US Air Force Hurricane Hunters are slated to fly into the system this afternoon to sample the atmosphere to see how the tropical depression is developing.

Expecting highs to reach into the upper 60s with an increasing onshore flow developing across the region. Winds will be on the increase as well, gusting to up to 25 mph on the Cape and Islands. Clouds and some coastal showers move in on Wednesday as the tenth tropical system of the 2017 Atlantic Hurricane Season, likely named Irma, moves offshore south of Nantucket. Locations along the South Coast and Cape and Islands may gust above 40 mph. Highs reach to near 70 degrees.

Expecting sunny and pleasant weather on Thursday as New England becomes situated between departing coastal system and an approaching cold front from the Great Lakes. This cold front may trigger some showers and thunderstorms as it traverses across the area. Some thunderstorms may become strong to severe with the potential for damaging winds. Highs reach into the upper 70s to near 80 degrees.

Come Friday, cold front moves offshore, setting us up for a fantastic start to the Labor Day Weekend as a fresh shot of Canadian air is ushered into New England. Overall, highs will flirt with either side of 70 degrees across the south and upper 60s across the north.
