(NECN/CNN: Xalapa, Mexico) - Tropical Depression Karl continued dissipating across southern Mexico on Saturday, but threats of flash floods and mudslides remain, forecasters said.
As of early Saturday morning, Karl was about 105 miles (165 km) west-southwest of Veracruz, Mexico, the National Hurricane Center said.
Maximum sustained winds fizzled to about 25 mph (35 kph) and are expected to decrease. Karl was headed west-southwest at about 3 mph (6 kph).
The storm's torrential rains killed two people, damaged highways and forced more than 100 people to shelters in the central Mexican state of Puebla, the state-run Notimex news agency reported.
Karl is expected to bring an additional 1 to 3 inches of rain to parts of southern Mexico.
"These rains could cause life-threatening flash floods and mudslides," the hurricane center said.
