U.S.: Pakistan Flooding Recovery Efforts Could Take Years

(NECN: Washington) - Deputy Special Representative for Afghanistan and Pakistan Dan Feldman today briefed the media on flooding in Pakistan.

"The total sum of U.S. helicopters has evacuated close to 8,000 people and delivered more than 1.6 million pounds of relief supplies," said Feldman.

The United Nations says almost a month of flooding has killed about 1,500 people, destroyed or damaged 1.2 million homes and affected 17.2 million people.

"The recovery and reconstruction efforts will take many, many months, if not years," said Feldman.

"The U.S. response has been both first and most among contributors," said Feldman. "We're now providing up to $150 million to support relief efforts."
