Mosquitoes in Manchester, NH Test Positive for EEE Virus

New Hampshire health officials say mosquitoes in Manchester have tested positive for the virus Eastern equine encephalitis.

New Hampshire Public Radio reports this is the third detection of the virus known as EEE this season, and it's the first in Manchester since 2013.

The virus was previously detected in Newton and Sandown.

EEE has similar symptoms to West Nile virus such as fever and joint pain, but EEE can lead to a more serious central nervous system infection.

There have been no human cases of EEE reported so far this year.

The Manchester Health Department says it does not plan to spray for mosquitoes, but it will continue to test for EEE until mid-October.
