Planet Fitness is once again inviting teens into its gyms this summer free of charge.

Starting June 1, the nationwide chain will be offering a complimentary summer membership to any high schooler between the ages of 14 and 19. The "High School Summer Pass" program will run until Aug. 31.

All teens who meet the age criteria are eligible to join the promotion even if they already have an existing Planet Fitness membership. Those who currently pay for access to the gym can freeze their accounts and sigh up for the program.

Each teen will be able to select one of Planet Fitness' more than 2000 locations to join for the summer. They will then have full access to the gym's facilities, equipment and fitness classes. Teens under the age of 18 will need to have their parent or guardian present at sign up.

Planet Fitness first did this promotion in 2019. The chain suspended it during the pandemic, but has brought it back annually since 2022. Jamie Medeiros, chief brand officer for the company, told CNBC Make It that the decision to bring it back for a fourth summer was "a no brainer."

"A lot of people decide to join [after their trial]," Medeiros said. "And a lot don't. We still take both as a win that they've experienced the brand and made fitness a priority."

Unlike a lot of free trials for paid services, there's no risk of accidentally getting billed once the trial period is over.

"There are absolutely no strings attached with this," Medeiros says. "You don't have to enter a credit card, there's no payment information taken at the point someone decides to join. On August 31 their participation in the program ends."

Planet Fitness estimates the program delivered roughly $200 million worth of value to high schoolers in its first three summers, with more than 7 million teens taking advantage since it was introduced in 2019.

And with a surge of teens soon hitting the chain's locations, Medeiros says existing members don't have to worry about their gym experience being disrupted, adding that the brand takes a "very forward approach" with educating it's young new members.

"We make sure they know how to use the equipment," she said. "They know what etiquette is expected of them in the club. We try to do that from point of sign up through the program."
