Boston-Area Patient Being Monitored Does Not Have Ebola

A health official confirms the Boston-area patient previously being monitored for Ebola has been cleared.

Department of Public Health spokesperson Scott Zoback says there is no longer any suspicion of Ebola. The individual traveled to Sierra Leone in West Africa, and arrived recently in the U.S. with a fever.

Zoback had previously said the patient was considered to be extremely low risk for the Ebola virus, and says it's common for people traveling from West Africa to experience fevers.

"Among the thousands of travelers who have been monitored since October 2014, none of those with fever have been diagnosed with Ebola," he said in a statement, adding that it's likely there will be another explanation for the fever.

The patient is being treated at Massachusetts General Hospital, which has a facility prepared for quarantine of patients with infectious diseases.
