Review: Scoozzi

(NECN: TV Diner) - Scoozi, Trattoria and Wine Bar, situated in the heart of the bustling Yale district in New Haven, is a long-time landmark and hot spot of the city.

Featuring upscale Italian Fare, Scoozi boasts a menu to entice the even the most discerning palate.

Offers of everything from Bruscetta to pollo to Bolognese are included with mouth-watering plate descriptions that are right on target.

We started with the Cozze Traditionale, or, more simply put, Prince Edward Isle Mussels. They were tender and succulent, with a tasty broth of lemon, wine and garlic. The ciabatta friselle soaked it up perfectly.

The Arugula Salad was exquisite. Topped with mandarin slices, large pieces of gorgonzola and almonds, it was delicately enhanced by its light, honey-lemon dressing.

The Bisteca was amazing. This was perfect cut of meat, cooked to order and topped with caramelized onions and gorgonzola, paired to perfection with a spinach, corn, potato side which was nothing short of delicious.

The Ravioli d’ Arogosta, or, Lobster Ravioli was by far the best we’ve tasted. Beautiful striped pasta filled with tender lobster was topped with a hearty tomato cream sauce and large shrimp, scallops and lobster pieces. It was outrageous!

The Cannolis were to die for. Two beautifully presented pastry, one chocolate coated, were filled with a light, airy ricotta cream and garnished with chocolate espresso beans. Perfect for sharing!

The Tartuffi Amaretti was again, outstanding. Chocolate encrusted hazelnut and chocolate gelati in the form of a giant orb was dusted with toasted almond and finished with Amarene cherries. Delicioso!

Service was exceptional from start to finish. We also thought the value to be great considering the high quality, beautifully presented dishes. Apps are around $11, Dinner around $25 and desserts $7.

We gave Scoozzi the highest-ranking Platinum plate for an outstanding dining experience.

Scoozzi also has a large wine bar and spacious patio, often featuring live music. They are below street level, so look for the sign -- and parking is plentiful both on the street and surrounding lots.

They’re located at 1104 Chapel Street in Downtown New Haven, Connecticut and can be reached at 203-776-8268 or on the web at www.scoozzi.com.
