Crews Knock Down 2-Alarm Fire in Boston's Mission Hill Neighborhood

Boston Fire says call came in as a rooftop fire; damage estimated to be about $500K

Firefighters knocked down a 2-alarm fire in Boston's Mission Hill neighborhood Monday night.

Boston Fire says the call came in for a rooftop fire at 27 Wigglesworth St. just before 10 p.m.

Authorities say that while the fire was knocked down within about 15 minutes of arrival, firefighters still checked for hotspots for about an hour.

A resident at 29 Wigglesworth St. reported hearing a loud explosion and swishing noise from the roof of 27 Wigglesworth.

Boston Fire estimates damage to about $500,000 and that six apartments in total are no longer liveable.

No injuries were reported, and fire officials say all residents made it out safely before firefighters arrived.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, but fire officials say there was a wooden roof deck on top of 27 Wigglesworth.
