Hernandez Lawyers Seek Dismissal of Double Murder Charges

A hearing was held Tuesday in Suffolk Superior Court on a motion from Hernandez's lawyers to drop the charges

Lawyers for former New England Patriots player Aaron Hernandez have asked a judge to throw out a search warrant that led police to seize a vehicle that prosecutors say Hernandez was driving when he fatally shot two Boston men in 2012.

Hernandez has pleaded not guilty in the killings of Daniel de Abreu and Safiro Furtado. Authorities say de Abreu accidentally bumped into Hernandez at a Boston nightclub and Hernandez then followed the men and opened fire on their car.

During a court hearing Tuesday, a lawyer for Hernandez said the search warrant that led to the seizure of a Toyota 4Runner is invalid because police relied on information from a man who failed a lie detector test.

A judge did not immediately rule on the request.

Hernandez is currently serving a life sentence in the 2013 killing of Odin Lloyd.
