The body of a Massachusetts Marine killed in Chattanooga, Tennessee, last week will be returned home to Springfield.
Sgt. Thomas J. Sullivan, of Springfield, was one of four Marines, killed in the tragic attack.
A spokesman for the Armed Services Medical Examiner told the Boston Herald Sunday that the bodies underwent autopsies over the weekend. Following the autopsy, the remains were sent a mortuary to be prepped for the return home to their individual families.
“We’re in charge of making sure they are treated with dignity, honor and respect as the remains arrive here at Dover,” said Capt. Karl Wiest, a spokesman for the mortuary division, told the Herald.
