Jury Deliberates Case of Man Charged With Stabbing Former Teenager Girlfriend

A jury has started deliberating in the trial of a Massachusetts man charged with murder in the fatal stabbing of his teenage girlfriend.

Prosecutors say Nickolas Lacrosse, of Springfield, stabbed 17-year-old high school senior Kathryn Mauke 32 times in her own home in February 2015 because he was angry she had broken up with him.

The Republican newspaper reports that jurors started deliberating Tuesday after hearing closing statements from the prosecution and defense.

The now 23-year-old Lacrosse testified last week that he did not intend to kill Mauke, but went to her home to get "clarification" about their split.

His attorney said Lacrosse was "disassociated." Two defense experts testified that Lacrosse didn't have the ability to control his actions and is not criminally responsible for the killing.
