Man Indicted for Rape After Woman Found Unconscious

Woman was found unconscious in a driveway.

An Everett man was indicted Monday for the rape of a young woman found unconscious in a driveway, a Middlesex County Grand Jury ruled.

Sami Sherif, 19, was indicted on one count of rape, District Attorney Marian Ryan announced.

Police found the victim unconscious in the driveway of a home at 32 Appleton Street in Everett back on March 7. A resident of the property said the woman’s clothing was in disarray with blood scattered all around her.

At that time, the victim's body temperature was 77 degrees and she had a blood alcohol level of .237. Medical professionals gave the victim a thirty percent chance of survival.

Upon further investigation, officials learned the victim had been drinking with numerous other teens hours before the incident unfolded at a party in the area. Police say Sheriff left the party with the victim before later returning alone.

After talking with witnesses, police identified Sheriff as a suspect and carried out an arrest.

Sheriff is presumed innocent until proven guilty. He'll next appear in court on July 8.

The case has been investigated by the Everett Police Department and Massachusetts State Police assigned to the Middlesex District Attorney's Office and in conjunction with the Massachusetts State Police Crime Laboratory.
