MSPCA to Offer Free Rabbits in Jan.

The MSPCA-Angell will waive adoption fees for rabbits during a weekend this January, after the organization received the largest surrender of the animal in the organization's history.

The group's Boston adoption center took in 25 rabbits from a Hampshire County home on Dec. 10, bringing the total population at the facility to 47 -- about 25 percent more than the organization usually houses this time of year.

There are so many rabbits that many of them were placed in cat colony rooms, spokesperson Rob Halpin said. Adoption fees are normally $75 in Boston and $55 in Cape Cod, but the group is eager to place the animals in the face of overcrowding.

Those interested in obtaining a new, free furry friend can visit the adoption facility on Saturday, Jan. 16 and Sunday, Jan. 17.
