Old Smoke Grenade Causes Scare at Goodwill Store

Authorities determined the device was an old smoke grenade that had already been detonated

Police are investigating following the discovery of an old military smoke grenade at a thrift store in Hooksett, New Hampshire.

Officers were dispatched to the Goodwill Store and Donation Center around 2:45 p.m. Monday after someone found what appeared to be a grenade in a bag containing clothes.

Authorities determined the device was an old smoke grenade that had already been detonated. The public was never in danger.

Fire Chief James Burkush says the store's staff did the right thing by calling police given the recent explosions and bomb scares in New York City and New Jersey.

The grenade was transferred to New Hampshire State Police for disposal.

Anyone with information about where the device came from is asked to contact Hooksett police.
