Report: Former University President Spent School Funds on Himself

The report reveals that Dobelle racked up tens of thousands of dollars in personal expenses and travel costs on university credit cards while also misrepresenting much of the spending as school-related business.

Some of the charges include two Kindle e-book readers, a digital camera and a laptop.

Dobelle also had a portrait of himself made last year at a cost of more than $700.

He even had family members pose as university officials in order to allow them to travel to Cuba.

The investigation into Dobelle's spending began last year after reports of questionable spending.

He resigned as president of Westfield State last November.

Dobelle has filed a federal lawsuit, alleging state and university officials violated his constitutional rights.

He's seeking unspecified damages.
